Hong Kong day one

Foggy hazy but good temperature

Here and in Kaoshuing, the people were wearing those bubble jackets as if it were really cold when it was actually in the 70s.

Coming into the harbor at dawn is a memorable experience but it is far better when the sun is out and the skies are clear.

Getting off the boat

Very simple here: just show your cruise card and step off onto the ramp to the cruise terminal.

Speaking of Cruise Terminal

This one is incorporated into a H U G E mall that goes on I swear for several blocks on 3 or 4 levels. White marble everywhere. Don’t look for a Rite Aide or Ross here. Dolce Gabanna, Prada, Loubitaun (you can tell how much I know about these brand names), all high end. Burberry was probably the cheapest though I did run across a sketchers with very little inventory. I am now on a mission to find some of those funky shoes I found in Guam and which everyone is saying I MUST have.

We looked for a photo store that had the special sports strap for the camera that looks like it will work for Ed but the only they had lacked the essential difference: an extra strap that keeps it from migrating.

I could not connect to Wi-Fi in this gigantic mall though I would almost swear that most people were here to use the Wi-Fi. And everyone dressed in black with perhaps a white shirt here and there.

All young. A few with strollers but that was rare. No one my age except from the ship. The mall is not friendly for sitting:no places to sit. Lots of folks with face masks on. I wondered about those that only covered the mouth. One store even had a face mask selection like the faces of cats and other animals.

Apple Store

Gigantic. And every one is so helpful and polite. The WiFi there was fantastic and we got most of our issues resolved and got the accessories we had been seeking. We now realize one of them doesn’t do what we wanted so we’ll have to return that one at some time.

Harmonica

The entertainment on the ship this evening was a harmonica folkloric show. Before you laugh, they are playing with symphonies everywhere and also on movie themes. It’s amazing what sounds they can create. The fellow this evening has won the international award two years in a row. He doesn’t look a day over 13.

Harbor Light Show

We went to the top of the ship on deck 11 to watch this 10 minute show for which the Hong Kong Harbor is famous and which requires a great deal of cooperation and planning by the buildings on the water.

Water traffic back and forth is steady and very busy all day.
