The sun woke
us after 6 am and we rolled out sometime after. It is hazy outside, warm,
hardly any wind, and we are cruising along at 18 knots which is quite good for
a ship.
Sunday services.
The minister
who does these services is a very sweet man with a nice voice. The director of
the ship’s band plays the music for the service
which is a nice gesture on her part.
The sermon
today was on the law and the Lord. Oliver Wendell Holmes was quoted and the
theme was tied into the readings. I didn’t know any of the hymns but they were
interesting.
Singapore
destination lecture
Alas we are
not docking where we have in the past, a disappointment similar to the one in
Sydney as that berth was a great central location. Apparently again we are
about 25 min by taxi outside the main part of the city. However, there is a
subway stop near the ship’s pier so we will probably do that. We have over 200
singapore dollars and the exchange rte is 1.14 S dollars to 1 USD so we are in
good shape and will wind up with some when we leave. This money is from
previous trips here.
Wiley Post
The only
thing I knew about Wiley Post was that he was the pilot of the plane where Will
Rogers died in Alaska. Turns out they were friends and both from Oklahoma. His
personal story is spectacular and I had not clue. He enjoyed two ticker tape
parades in NYC for his round the world flights under amazingly difficult
circumstances.
Moonlight
No trivia
today as this Oscar winning film was shown on our TV. We ordered a luncheon
room service meal (they make great hamburgers and French fries). It is not my
kind of movie. I want to feel uplifted when I go to a movie. I’ll be interested
in what others thought but I’m not bringing up the topic on my own.
Wine tasting
Because of
all of our trips on Princess, we are comped on these. Good thing because I
would never pay the $9.50 to do this. Ed however, does like wines and he enjoys
it. Occasionally I find one that I would tolerate. We met another couple who we
did not recall meeting before. They are also from So Cal.
Trivia
No we didn’t
win but we did very well and except for one bit of confusion, we probably would
have won again.
Casual pics
These are
theme photos where you must mimic running away from big foot, seeing a shark
coming for you, etc. Uros was the snapper and we always have fun with him.
Dinner
Francis, our
new waiter, is from Goa and so each evening he gives us advice on India related
things to do. Tonight had a dish from India and he was telling us about it. He
is a sweet man and works to keep us engaged. It’s hard though because we all
chatter without a break all through dinner. Tonight’s discussion was which era
had the best music. We ended with a lively discussion of country and western
and found some devotees around us.
Wow what a
show
These
singers and dancers are simply spectacular. Great voices, wonderful athletic
dancing, terrific costumes with many quick changes. We walk out tired and they
have another show to do tonight.
Our nightly
routine
Pretty boring
but necessary. Much around laundry: doing my sleeves, preparing the bag and the
invoice for our clothes to be sent out, etc. It takes up a good bit of time
before we are finished and can go to bed.
